Tṛtīya-prakaraṇam (Āsana) · Verse 13
सम्पीड्य सीवनीं सूक्ष्मां गुल्फेनैव तु सव्यतः । सव्यं दक्षिणगुल्फेन मुक्तासनमितीरितम् ॥
sampīḍya sīvanīṃ sūkṣmāṃ gul phenaiva tu savyataḥ | savyaṃ dakṣiṇagulphena muktāsanamitīritam ||
The articulation of muktasana highlights the intricate relationship between physical posture and subtle energetic manipulation. The verse specifies compressing the sevana—the delicate perineum—using the left and right ankles, demonstrating a refined understanding of the nāḍī system and the flow of prāṇa. This focused compression, achieved through the crossing of the ankles, is presented as a key element in releasing blockages and fostering liberation. This technique directly targets the mūlādhāra chakra, the foundational energy center, and its release is considered a precursory step towards bandhas – intentional closures of energy channels – which are fundamental to prāṇāyāma and subsequent yogic practices.
