Saptama-prakaraṇam (Dhāraṇā) · Verse 12

This verse presents a succinct distillation of the yogic aim, asserting the inherent liberation of the ātman – the self – which immediately merges with Brahman, devoid of any possibility of doubt. The phrase “becomes Brahman” signifies not merely intellectual understanding, but a fundamental ontological transformation, a dissolution of the individual into the universal. Dhyānam – meditation – is presented as the paramam shastra, the supreme weapon, mirroring the martial imagery prevalent in Vedic thought, but applied here to the internal battle for liberation. This weapon, when wielded correctly, generates yoga-siddhi, a perfected state of yogic realization, reflecting the efficacy of disciplined practice in attaining ultimate freedom. The verse underscores the direct experiential path to release, a core tenet shared with the Upaniṣads and a foundational element within the developing traditions of rāja yoga.
