Navama-prakaraṇam (Samādhi) · Verse 16
तदा योगी भवेत् साक्षान्मृत्युं जयति निश्चितम् । कुण्डल्युद्धारणं कृत्वा योगी सिद्धिमवाप्नुयात् ॥
tadā yogī bhavet sākṣānmṛtyuṃ jayati niścitam | kuṇḍalyuddhāraṇaṃ kṛtvā yogī siddhimavāpnuyāt ||
Verse 16 presents a striking consequence of successfully elevating kuṇḍalinī. The yogī, through this arduous and precise undertaking of kundaly-uddharana – “the raising of Kundalini” – achieves a direct, unequivocal victory over mrittyu – “death.” This isn’t a literal immortality, but a liberation from the cycle of birth and death predicated on the illusion of a separate self. The phrase “without doubt” (nirdhitam) underscores the absolute certainty of this liberation, a state achieved through sustained and disciplined practice. This echoes the broader yogic aim of kaivalya, the state of profound independence, where the practitioner is no longer subject to the effects of prakṛti, the material world. The attainment of siddhi – “perfection” – in this context signifies the complete dissolution of the ego and the realization of one’s true nature as identical with Brahman.
