Naraka

Hell, a state of suffering between incarnations. Naraka is a temporary realm where the soul experiences the consequences of negative karma before being reborn. Unlike the Abrahamic hell, naraka is not eternal: once the karma that generated it is exhausted, the being returns to the cycle of rebirth. The Upaniṣads describe multiple naraka-s according to the nature of the karma. Equivalent to the Pāli niraya.
