नित्यम्

Nityam

concepto

Eternal, perpetual, constant, everlasting. From the root ni — to lead or guide, with the sense of that which is firmly established.

In the Bhagavad-gītā, nityam describes the true nature of the Self (ātman) — unborn, undying, beyond the mutations of birth and death. Kṛṣṇa teaches that the wise do not grieve for those who have passed, knowing the Self to be nitya.

The term carries both metaphysical and practical force: the eternal is not elsewhere but here, concealed beneath the transient appearances of the manifest world. Recognizing this changes one’s relationship with time itself.
