Śūnya

Emptiness, void, zero — a central concept in both [[Buddhism]] and the [[hatha-yoga]] tradition. Not mere nothingness, but the insubstantial nature of all phenomena, the absence of independent essence.

In [[Prajñāpāramitā]] literature, śūnyatā is the wisdom that sees through fixed identity. In haṭha practice, it refers to the inner space of consciousness where thoughts cease and pure awareness remains — the [[mahāśūnya]] or “great void” of meditative absorption.

The [[Heart Sutra]] declares: “Form is emptiness, emptiness is form” (rūpaṃ śūnyatā), revealing that the nature of reality is neither existent nor non-existent.
