स्वरूप

Svarūpa

concepto

Own form, true nature, essential form. From sva (own) and rūpa (form). In the Yoga Sūtras (1.3), Yoga is defined as the cessation of vṛttis so that the seer abides in its own svarūpa — not an attainment but a return to what already is. In Vedānta, svarūpa is contrasted with upādhi (limiting adjunct); ātman in its svarūpa is pure consciousness without qualification. The term carries the radical implication that our true nature is never lost, only obscured. See atman, svabhava.
