Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 51

नाडीमूले तु संयोज्य निकुञ्च्य च मुहुर्मुहुः | योनिमुद्रा महादेवी कुण्डलीबोधकारिणी ||

nāḍīmūle tu saṃyojya nikuñcya ca muhur muhuḥ | yonimudrā mahādevī kuṇḍalībodhakāriṇī ||

The execution of Yoni mudrā: repeated contractions (muhur muhuḥ) of the perineum while retaining the breath and directing attention to the base of the spine.

“The great goddess” (mahādevī) refers to the divine feminine energy, the śakti, which resides in dormant form as kuṇḍalinī at the base.

“Awakener of kuṇḍalinī” is the purpose and result of this practice. The sleeping serpent energy is stimulated to ascend through suṣumnā.
