Pañcamopadeśaḥ (Prāṇāyāma) · Verse 7
भस्त्रिका भ्रामरी मूर्छा केवली चैव कीर्तिताः | एते दश प्राणायामा योगिनां सिद्धिदायकाः ||
bhastrikā bhrāmarī mūrcchā kevalī caiva kīrtitāḥ | ete daśa prāṇāyāmā yogināṃ siddhidāyakāḥ ||
Completing the catalogue of ten prāṇāyāmas: Bhastrikā (bellows), Bhrāmarī (bee hum), Mūrcchā (fainting), and Kevalī (absolute).
Bhastrikā is rapid rhythmic breathing. Bhrāmarī includes humming during exhalation. Mūrcchā produces light fainting from prolonged retention. Kevalī is the spontaneous suspension.
All are “givers of perfection.” Prāṇāyāma is the heart of haṭha yoga; its mastery opens all other doors.
