Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 11
पादमूलेन वामेन योनिं सम्पीड्य दक्षिणाम् | प्रसारितं पदं कृत्वा कराभ्यां धारयेद्दृढम्
pādamūlena vāmena yoniṃ sampīḍya dakṣiṇām | prasāritaṃ padaṃ kṛtvā karābhyāṃ dhārayed dṛḍham
Pressing the perineum with the left heel and extending the right leg, holding it firmly with both hands.
This verse begins the technical description of Mahāmudrā.The base position requires pādamūlena vāmena — with the heel of the left foot — pressing yoni — here referring to the perineum, the point between the genitals and the anus.
The right leg is extended (prasāritam) forward, while the hands hold the extended foot or leg. This position combines elements of Jānuśīrṣāsana with specific activation of the perineal point.
Pressure on the perineum stimulates Mūlādhāra chakra and activates the base of Suṣumnā.This is a preparatory posture that is complemented by the bandhas and breathing techniques described in the following verses.
