Of all the bandhas, Uḍḍīyāna is truly the best.When Uḍḍīyāna Bandha is firmly established, liberation occurs naturally.

This verse grants Uḍḍīyāna supremacy among all bandhas.Although mūla bandha is considered the base and jālandhara the upper seal, Uḍḍīyāna occupies the center—the navel region—where the energies converge and where the transformative fire (agni) resides.

Dṛḍhe bandhe — “when the bandha is firmly established” — indicates complete mastery, not mere occasional practice.A firmly established bandha means that the technique has been integrated so deeply that it can be maintained during advanced prāṇāyāma and meditation without conscious effort.

Muktiḥ svābhāvikī — “natural liberation” — is remarkable.It does not say that liberation is obtained by additional effort, but that it occurs naturally as a consequence of the mastery of Uḍḍīyāna.This reflects the haṭha yoga view that mokṣa is not something that is manufactured but something that is revealed when energetic obstacles are removed.The prāṇa flowing freely through suṣumṇā automatically dissolves the veils of avidyā.
