Prakaraṇa 1 · Verse 29
स्वभावमात्रं चेदम् अपि न किंचिद् विमृशतः
svabhāvamātraṃ cedam api na kiṃcid vimṛśataḥ
All this is only own nature; examine and you will find nothing more
Svabhāva — own nature, self-being — is what remains when all superimpositions are withdrawn. It is not a hidden essence behind appearances; it is what appearances are when seen without the distortion of desire and fear. To examine (vimṛśa) is the central technique of the Vāsiṣṭha: not meditation, not devotion, not ritual — rigorous examination of experience until the belief in its solidity dissolves.
