Ghaṭa

Pot, vessel. A classical symbol for the body in the analogy of the ghaṭa: just as the space within the pot is one with the space without, the embodied ātman is one with Brahman — the pot only appears to divide them. In the Haṭhapradīpikā, ghaṭa-śuddhi designates the purification of the bodily «vessel» through ṣaṭkarma, prāṇāyāma and mudrā as a prerequisite for the awakening of kuṇḍalinī. See shatkarma, kundalini.
