Śūnya Dhāraṇā · Dhāraṇā 33
घटादिभाजने दृष्टिं भित्तिस्त्यक्त्वा विनिक्षिपेत् । तल्लयं तत्क्षणाद्गत्वा तल्लयात्तन्मयो भवेत् ॥
ghaṭādibhājane dṛṣṭiṃ bhittis tyaktvā vinikṣipet | tallayaṃ tatkṣaṇād gatvā tallayāt tanmayo bhavet ||
Abandoning the walls of a pot or other vessel, deposit the gaze in the inner space. Reaching dissolution in that instant, through that dissolution one becomes one with that.
Thirty-third technique. Contemplation of space within a vessel. Ghaṭādibhājane — in a pot or other vessel. Bhittiḥ tyaktvā — abandoning the walls. Do not look at the container. Look at the space it contains. The walls are form. The inner space is reality.
Dṛṣṭiṃ vinikṣipet — deposit the gaze there. Gently. Without effort. Tallayaṃ tatkṣaṇāt gatvā — in that very instant, reaching dissolution in that. The mind, contemplating the empty space within the vessel, dissolves into it.
Tallayāt tanmayo bhavet — through that dissolution, one becomes one with that. “That” is space. And the space inside the pot is identical to the space outside it. The walls create the illusion of separation. When gaze ignores walls, inner and outer space reveal themselves as one. So with body and universe.
