Śūnya Dhāraṇā · Dhāraṇā 32
देहस्थितः सर्वगतो न कश्चित्क्वापि तिष्ठति । यदेवमेव विज्ञाय चित्तं विगतसंशयम् ॥
dehasthitaḥ sarvagato na kaścit kvāpi tiṣṭhati | yad evam eva vijñāya cittaṃ vigatasaṃśayam ||
Established in the body yet pervading all — no one really dwells anywhere. Knowing thus, the mind is freed from doubt.
Thirty-second dhāraṇā. Deliberate paradox. Dehasthitaḥ sarvagataḥ — established in the body and simultaneously omnipresent. These two conditions seem contradictory. They are not. The body is in a place. The consciousness inhabiting the body has no place.
Na kaścit kvāpi tiṣṭhati — no one really dwells anywhere. Radical statement. The feeling of “I am here” is a mental construction. Consciousness does not occupy space. It is not “inside” the body like water inside a glass. It permeates the body like space permeates a vessel.
Vijñāya cittaṃ vigatasaṃśayam — knowing thus, the mind is freed from all doubt. The fundamental doubt is “who am I?” — am I this limited body or unlimited consciousness? The answer: both and neither. The paradox is not resolved. It is inhabited.
