निवृत्तस्य निराधारं शून्ये चित्तं समाश्रयेत् । ततः शून्यपरो भूत्वा शून्याकारो भवेत्पुमान् ॥
nivṛttasya nirādhāraṃ śūnye cittaṃ samāśrayet | tataḥ śūnyaparo bhūtvā śūnyākāro bhavet pumān ||
Withdrawn from all, without support, let the mind rest in the void. Then, having become devoted to the void, the person takes the form of the void.
Thirty-fourth dhāraṇā. Nivṛttasya — withdrawn, ceased. From all mental activity, all identification, all movement. Nirādhāram — without support. The mind normally needs something to rest upon: a thought, an image, a sensation. Here it is asked to rest without any support.
Śūnye cittaṃ samāśrayet — let the mind take refuge in the void. The void as refuge. Not as threat, not as nihilism, not as depression. As home. The mind that discovers it can exist without grasping anything finds a freedom no object can give.
Śūnyaparo bhūtvā śūnyākāraḥ — having become devoted to the void, one takes its form. Devotion to the void is not pessimism. It is the supreme adventure: letting go of all and discovering what remains is vaster than all that was released.
