Sañjaya said: Having thus spoken to Hṛṣīkeśa, Guḍākeśa, the chastiser of enemies, said to Govinda: ‘I shall not fight,’ and became silent

The dialogue closes. Arjuna has said everything; now he declares his decision: na yotsye (I shall not fight). The first person future is resolute — not “I do not want” but “I will not do it.”

The epithets are symmetrical: hṛṣīkeśa (lord of the senses) and guḍākeśa (thick-haired) — Kṛṣṇa and Arjuna as pairs. Parantapa (chastiser of enemies) is now ironic: the warrior has renounced war.

Tūṣṇīm (in silence) babhūva (became, remained). The quiet after the declaration. Now it is Kṛṣṇa’s turn.
