Rāja-Vidyā-Rāja-Guhya Yoga · Verse 8
प्रकृतिं स्वामवष्टभ्य विसृजामि पुनः पुनः | भूतग्राममिमं कृत्स्नमवशं प्रकृतेर्वशात्
prakṛtiṃ svām avaṣṭabhya visṛjāmi punaḥ punaḥ | bhūta-grāmam imaṃ kṛtsnam avaśaṃ prakṛter vaśāt
Taking support of My own material nature, I emit again and again this entire multitude of beings, helpless under the dominion of the modes of nature.
The Lord does not create each being directly; He acts through prakṛti, His material energy. Avaṣṭabhya — depending upon, taking support of — indicates that the creative power resides in nature, but under His direction.
Bhūta-grāma — multitude of beings — refers to the infinite variety of life forms. Avaśam — without free will, helpless — describes the condition of these beings under prakṛteḥ vaśāt — under the control of material nature.
However, this “helplessness” is not absolute: human beings have the capacity of choice to approach the Lord and become liberated from this cycle.
