Why, taking refuge in ego, do you think ‘I will not fight’ — false is this your purpose. Prakṛti will compel you.
Arjuna thinks of refusing to fight out of ego. Ahaṅkāram āśritya — taking refuge in ego (“I decide”). Na yotsye iti manyase — “I will not fight,” thus you think.
Mithyā eṣa vyavasāyaḥ — false is this purpose. Prakṛtiḥ tvāṃ niyokṣyati — prakṛti will compel you. Arjuna is kṣatriya by nature (sva-bhāva), he cannot avoid his dharma — acting according to guṇas.
