Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 12

पूर्वाभ्यस्ता तु यत्नेन मयादिष्टक्रियेयमेति | नातः परतरं किञ्चित्साधनं दृश्यते क्वचित् ||

pūrvābhyastā tu yatnena mayādiṣṭakriyeyam eti | nātaḥ parataraṃ kiñcit sādhanaṃ dṛśyate kvacit ||

Gheraṇḍa emphasizes the importance of Mahāmudrā. With previous practice (pūrvābhyastā) and sustained effort (yatnena), there is no higher technique.

This is not an exaggeration by the author; it is recognition that Mahāmudrā contains all the essential elements: posture, breath, seals, and meditation. It is a microcosm of all yoga.

The modern practitioner must understand: mastering this one technique is worth more than superficially practicing many. Depth surpasses variety.
