Dvitīyopadeśaḥ (Prāṇāyāma) · Verse 77

राजयोगपदं चापि लभते नात्र संशयः | कुम्भकात्कुण्डलीबोधात्कुण्डलीबोधतो भवेत्

rājayogapadaṃ cāpi labhate nātra saṃśayaḥ | kumbhakāt kuṇḍalīboddhāt kuṇḍalībodhato bhavet

Without doubt one also attains the state of rāja yoga. From kumbhaka comes the awakening of kuṇḍalinī, and from the awakening of kuṇḍalinī comes [samādhi].

This verse establishes the connection between haṭha yoga and rāja yoga. Rājayogapadam — the state or position of rāja yoga — is attained (labhate) without doubt (nātra saṃśayaḥ). Haṭha yoga is not an end in itself but the staircase toward the supreme realization of rāja yoga.

The progression is clear: kumbhakāt kuṇḍalībodha — from kumbhaka arises the awakening of kuṇḍalinī. All the prāṇāyāma practices described in this chapter have the aim of preparing and catalyzing this awakening.

Kuṇḍalībodhataḥ bhavet — “from the awakening of kuṇḍalinī arises [the next state]” — leaves implicit that this state is samādhi or union with the absolute. This causal chain summarizes the entire second chapter: breathing practices lead to the awakening of energy, which in turn leads to liberation.
