Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 13
ऋज्वीभूता तथा शक्तिः कुण्डली सहसा भवेत् | तदा सा मरण-अवस्था जायते द्वि-पुटाश्रया
ṛjvībhūtā tathā śaktiḥ kuṇḍalī sahasā bhavet | tadā sā maraṇa-avasthā jāyate dvi-puṭāśrayā
Then that Śakti Kuṇḍalinī suddenly straightens up;then that state similar to death arises, with both channels empty.
Ṛjvībhūtā — having straightened up — describes the moment when Kuṇḍalinī leaves its coiled state and ascends.Sahasā — suddenly — indicates that this awakening can occur instantly when the conditions are right.
Maraṇa-avasthā — death-like state — describes the experience when prāṇa leaves the ordinary channels.Breathing can become so subtle that it seems to stop, and body awareness decreases dramatically.
Dvi-puṭāśrayā — with the two channels (Iḍā and Piṅgalā) empty. When Kuṇḍalinī ascends through Suṣumnā, the side channels become inactive. This emptying of the ordinary nāḍīs is a sign that the energy has entered the central channel.
