Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 84
मेहनेन शनैः सम्यगूर्ध्वाकुञ्चनमभ्यसेत् | पुरुषोऽप्यथवा नारी वज्रोलीसिद्धिमाप्नुयात्
mehanena śanaiḥ samyag ūrdhvākuñcanam abhyaset | puruṣo 'py athavā nārī vajrolī-siddhim āpnuyāt
The upward contraction through the genital organ must be practiced correctly and gradually. Both men and women can achieve Vajrolī siddhi.
This verse describes the central technical aspect of Vajrolī and affirms its universality.Mehanena ūrdhvākuñcanam — upward contraction through the genital organ — is the essence of the practice. It is about developing control over the muscles and channels of the genital region to reverse the flow of sexual energy.
Śanaiḥ samyak — gradually and correctly — emphasizes that this skill develops progressively. The training includes preparatory exercises such as aśvinī mudrā (anal sphincter contraction) and mūla bandha, which strengthen the pelvic floor.
Puruṣo ‘py athavā nārī — both male and female — is significant.Unlike exclusively male or female practices, Vajrolī (and its female variant Sahajolī) is available to both sexes. For women, the practice is called Sahajolī and works with the same principles of control and elevation of sexual energy, adapted to the female anatomy.
