Śivasaṃhitā 3.105

With this verse, the text elevates siddhāsana to the category of esoteric knowledge. Guhya (‘secret’, ‘hidden’) belongs to the vocabulary of tantra and signals a knowledge not freely disseminated but transmitted from teacher to disciple. The assertion that no posture more guhya exists anywhere on earth (bhuvi) is a declaration of absolute supremacy.

Guhya shares its root with guhā (‘cave’, ‘cavern’), a recurring metaphor in the Upaniṣads for the heart or the interior of the being. The ‘secret’ is not necessarily the forbidden, but that which remains concealed from the unprepared. Parataraṃ is the comparative of para (‘superior, beyond’), and its negation nātaḥ parataraṃ constructs an emphatic superlation: ‘nothing beyond this’.

This type of superlative declaration is a characteristic literary device in haṭhayoga texts for hierarchizing teachings and motivating the practitioner. It also serves a genuine pedagogical function: by asserting that this posture contains a profound mystery, the text invites the yogin not to treat it as mere physical exercise but to investigate its subtler dimensions, which only reveal themselves through sustained practice.
