Prakaraṇa 1 · Verse 31

अनित्यं सर्वम् इह वस्तु न शाश्वतं क्वचित्

anityaṃ sarvam iha vastu na śāśvataṃ kvacit

Everything in this world is transitory; nothing is eternal

The first noble truth of Buddhism — anityā — filtered through the Advaita lens. This is not a denunciation of the world; it is a description of its structure. The transitory is not less real for being transitory; it is less reliable as an anchor. Do not cling to what moves, says Vasiṣṭha, not because it is contemptible but because it will slip through your fingers.
