Prakaraṇa 1 · Verse 32

यदा चित्तं निवर्तेत तथा मुक्तिर् भविष्यति

yadā cittaṃ nivarteta tathā muktir bhaviṣyati

When the mind withdraws, then liberation will be

Nivṛtti — withdrawal, cessation, the inverse movement of pravṛtti (projection outward). It is not repression or escape; it is mind ceasing to project outward and recognizing its own source. When the beam of light turns back upon itself instead of illuminating objects, it discovers that it itself is light. Liberation is not a future event; it is the present nature of consciousness revealed when projection ceases.
