Dvādaśa-prakaraṇam (Kuṇḍalinī) · Verse 16
याज्ञवल्क्य उवाच - गार्गि योगफलं वक्ष्ये शृणुष्वावहिता भव । सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तो ब्रह्मलोकं प्रयाति सः ॥
yājñavalkya uvāca - gārgi yogaphalaṃ vakṣye śṛṇuṣvāvahitā bhava | sarvapāpavinirmukto brahmalokaṃ prayāti saḥ ||
This verse, beginning with śṛṇuṣvāvahitā bhava, immediately establishes a crucial pedagogical element within the Yoga Yājñavalkya. The use of the vocative imperative, directed specifically at Gārgī, signals a deliberate effort to engage the student directly and underscores the profound nature of the knowledge being imparted. The injunction to “listen with attention, be careful” is not merely a suggestion for diligent hearing, but a command to approach this exposition with a serious and focused mind, acknowledging the potential for misinterpretation. The ultimate reward for such attentive listening is presented as access to the brahma-loka, a term that simultaneously refers to the cosmic realm of Brahman and the state of pure consciousness attainable through dedicated practice. For a haṭha yogī, this is not a destination after death, but a potentiality within the present moment, a state of being realized through the mastery of prāṇāyāma and āsana, predicated upon the eradication of papa—actions that generate karmic bondage—and a profound connection to the ultimate reality.
