शाम्भवी

Śāmbhavī

mudra

Śāmbhavī (शाम्भवी) is the mudrā of Śambhu (Śiva): the unwinking gaze directed toward the inner space between the eyebrows, with the eyes open but the attention absorbed in the subject that sees. In the Vijñāna-bhairava (vv. 33-37), śāmbhavī mudrā is described as the fusion of the seer and the seen, where subject-object duality dissolves. The Haṭha-pradīpikā considers it the supreme technique leading directly to samādhi. See mudra, samadhi.
