Vibhūti Yoga · Verse 6

महर्षयः सप्त पूर्वे चत्वारो मनवस्तथा | मद्भावा मानसा जाता येषां लोक इमाः प्रजाः

maharṣayaḥ sapta pūrve catvāro manavas tathā | mad-bhāvā mānasā jātā yeṣāṃ loka imāḥ prajāḥ

The seven great sages of old, and the four Manus, born from My mind, from them come all these creatures in the world.

The great progenitors of humanity. The sapta maharṣayaḥ — seven sages like Marīci, Atri — are the fathers of the human species according to Vedic tradition.

The catvāraḥ manavaḥ — four Manus (Svāyambhuva, etc.) — are the regent ancestors of the four yugas. Mad-bhāvāḥ — born from My nature/being — mānasāḥ — from My mind.

These prajāpatis (lords of creatures) generate imāḥ prajāḥ — all these living manifestations — serving as intermediaries between the Lord and material creation.
