The spirit, situated in nature, enjoys the qualities born of nature; attachment to the qualities is the cause of its good and bad births.

Prakṛti-sthaḥ — situated in nature — does not mean spirit is contained by nature, but that it witnesses from within the psycho-physical complex.

The guṇas of sattva, rajas, and tamas constitute nature’s fabric. The spirit witnesses their play through the lens of ahaṅkāra (ego).

Guṇa-saṅga — attachment to qualities — binds the spirit to the cycle of birth in sat (auspicious) and asat (inauspicious) wombs. This is the mechanism of saṃsāra.
