Mokṣa-Sannyāsa Yoga · Verse 4

निश्चयं शृणु मे तत्र त्यागे भरतसत्तम | त्यागो हि पुरुषव्याघ्र त्रिविधः सम्प्रकीर्तितः

niścayaṃ śṛṇu me tatra tyāge bhārata-sattama | tyāgo hi puruṣa-vyāghra tri-vidhaḥ samprakīrtitaḥ

Hear My determination regarding abandonment, oh best of the Bhāratas. Abandonment, oh tiger among men, is said to be triple.

Kṛṣṇa responds with niścaya — determination, definitive conclusion. Addressed to bhārata-sattama (the best of the Bhāratas) and puruṣa-vyāghra (tiger among men).

The tyāga is tri-vidhaḥ — triple, according to the guṇas. The solution is not to choose between abandoning or acting, but to transform the attitude toward action according to the predominant quality.
