अहिंसा सत्यमक्रोधस्त्यागः शान्तिरपैशुनम् | दयाभूतेष्वलोलुप्त्वं मार्दवं ह्रीरचापलम्
ahiṃsā satyam akrodhas tyāgaḥ śāntir apaiśunam | dayā bhūteṣv aloluptvaṃ mārdavaṃ hrīr acāpalam
Non-violence, truth, absence of anger, renunciation, peace, non-slander, compassion toward beings, non-greed, gentleness, shame, absence of restlessness…
The divine qualities continue. Ahiṃsā — non-violence, non-harming. Satya — truthfulness, congruence between thought, word, and action. Akrodha — absence of coleric anger.
Tyāga — renunciation, abandonment of attachment. Śānti — peace, inner serenity. Apaiśuna — non-speaking-ill-of-others, non-slander. Dayā bhūteṣu — compassion toward all beings. Aloluptva — non-greed, absence of insensate desire. Mārdava — gentleness, non-hardness. Hrī — shame, the healthy modesty that avoids the unworthy. Acāpala — absence of restlessness, stability.
