Mokṣa-Sannyāsa Yoga · Verse 25
अनुबन्धं क्षयं हिंसामनवेक्ष्य च पौरुषम् | मोहादारभ्यते कर्म यत्तत्तामसमुच्यते
anubandhaṃ kṣayaṃ hiṃsām anapekṣya ca pauruṣam | mohād ārabhyate karma yat tat tāmasam ucyate
The action that is undertaken through ignorance, without considering the consequence, the ruin, the harm, and one’s own capacity — that is called tāmasic.
Tāmasic action: mohāt — through ignorance, delusion. Anapekṣya — without considering:
- Anubandham — consequences, future results
- Kṣayam — damage, ruin (to oneself or others)
- Hiṃsām — violence
- Pauruṣam — one’s own capacity, whether it is adequate
It is impulsive, destructive action, without discernment.
