Brāhmaṇavagga · The Brahmin · Gāthā 399

Yo ceva brāhmaṇamāhaṁsi, so ceva brāhmaṇo hoti; Yo ceva brāhmaṇamāhaṁsi, so ceva brāhmaṇo hoti.

Yo ceva brāhmaṇamāhaṁsi, so ceva brāhmaṇo hoti; yo ceva brāhmaṇamāhaṁsi, so ceva brāhmaṇo hoti.

Who says “I am Brahman”, that one is Brahman; who says “I am Brahman”, that one is Brahman.

Paradox: one who affirms “I am Brahman” is Brahmin only if not affirming from ego. Spiritual self-affirmation is a subtle trap.

The true brāhmaṇa can say it because there is no one left to say it. The ego has gone, the affirmation does not reinforce it.
