Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 46

विपरीतकरणी मुद्रा दुर्लभा सर्वदेहिनाम् | तत्प्रकारं प्रवक्ष्यामि शृणु त्वं कमलानने ||

viparītakaraṇī mudrā durlabhā sarvadehinām | tatprakāraṃ pravakṣyāmi śṛṇu tvaṃ kamalānane ||

Viparītakaraṇī — the inverted. Viparīta means inverted, reversed, opposite. It is a practice of inverting the body.

“Difficult to attain” because it requires balance and strength. Not everyone can maintain the inverted position long enough to obtain its benefits.

Inversion is therapeutic: it improves cerebral circulation, relieves pressure on the spine, and allows a different vision of the world.
