When the sleeping Kuṇḍalinī awakens by the grace of the guru, then all the lotuses (chakras) are pierced, as are the knots (granthis).

This verse describes the result of Kuṇḍalinī’s awakening: the opening of all chakras and the piercing of the three granthis (psychic knots). The padmāni are the lotuses — another name for the chakras — energy centers along the central channel.

The three granthis mentioned are Brahma granthi (at mūlādhāra), Viṣṇu granthi (at anāhata), and Rudra granthi (at ājñā). These knots represent blockages that prevent the ascent of energy. When Kuṇḍalinī rises, it pierces them one by one.

The role of the guru is crucial: guru-prasādena indicates that genuine awakening occurs through the transmission and grace of the master, not merely through technical effort. This is a distinctive characteristic of tantric traditions.
