Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 41
ततः सैन्धव-पथ्याभ्यां चूर्णिताभ्यां प्रघर्षयेत् | पुनः सप्तदिने प्राप्ते रोम-मात्रं समुच्छिनेत्
tataḥ saindhava-pathyābhyāṃ cūrṇitābhyāṃ pragharṣayet | punaḥ saptadine prāpte roma-mātraṃ samucchinet
It is then rubbed with rock salt powder and pathyā (Terminalia chebula); After seven days, the thickness of a hair is cut again.
Saindhava — rock salt — and pathyā (also called harītakī or Terminalia chebula) are applied in powder form to promote healing and prevent infection. These are traditional Ayurvedic remedies.
Saptadine prāpte — when seven days have passed — indicates the rest period between cuts.Complete healing requires this interval before continuing the process.
Roma-mātram samucchinet — the thickness of a hair is cut again. The process is repeated every week, lasting for months. This extremely gradual method reflects the patience required in traditional practices and the seriousness with which preparation for Khecarī was approached.
