Śivasaṃhitā 5.162

This verse precisely locates the brahmarandhra —the «aperture of Brahman» at the crown of the skull— in direct relation to the energetic field that supports the suṣumṇā. This is not ordinary anatomical description: the text places the highest destination of yogic energy on the same axis as the central nāḍī, establishing a coherent and precise subtle geography.

The compound ādhāramaṇḍala joins ādhāra (support, foundation) with maṇḍala (circle, field, region). Together they designate the zone of energetic sustenance of the suṣumṇā, which in Tantric tradition extends from mūlādhāra to sahasrāra. The brahmarandhra does not float in isolation: it emerges from the vertical subtle axis that constitutes the spine of being.

In the meditative practice of haṭhayoga, knowing the precise location of these centers is not mere scholarship — it is a prerequisite for effective visualization. Later texts such as the Ṣaṭcakranirūpaṇa would elaborate this map in considerable detail, but the Śivasaṃhitā already establishes here the fundamental structural relationship between the path (suṣumṇā) and its destination (brahmarandhra).
