Deha Dhāraṇā · Dhāraṇā 51

पिण्डमन्त्रं स्थूलं सूक्ष्मं परापरम् । क्रमादस्य ध्रुवं ध्यानं परव्योमप्रकाशकम् ॥

piṇḍamantraṃ sthūlaṃ sūkṣmaṃ parāparam | kramād asya dhruvaṃ dhyānaṃ paravyomaprakāśakam ||

The mantra compact, gross, subtle, beyond the beyond — by gradual and constant meditation on this, the light of the supreme space is revealed.

Fifty-first dhāraṇā. Progression of mantra from gross to supreme. Piṇḍamantram — the compact, dense mantra. Sthūlam — in its gross, audible form. Sūkṣmam — in its subtle, mental form. Parāparam — the beyond of the beyond.

Kramāt — gradually, by stages. Unlike other techniques that are instantaneous, this is processual. First the mantra is pronounced aloud. Then whispered. Then repeated mentally. Then only intention remains. Then even that dissolves.

Dhruvaṃ dhyānam — firm, constant meditation. Paravyomaprakāśakam — which illuminates the supreme space. Each level of mantra subtlety reveals a deeper level of consciousness. Audible voice illuminates physical space. Mental repetition illuminates inner space. Silence beyond mantra illuminates supreme space.
