Navama-prakaraṇam (Samādhi) · Verse 1
अथातः कुण्डलिनीं वक्ष्ये शक्तिं परमेश्वरीम् । योगसिद्धिकरीं देवीं मूलाधारनिवासिनीम् ॥
athātaḥ kuṇḍalinīṃ vakṣye śaktiṃ parameśvarīm | yogasiddhikarīṃ devīṃ mūlādhāranivāsinīm ||
The ninth prakaraṇa introduces the profound concept of kuṇḍalinī, presented as the śakti – power – of the parameshvari, the supreme Goddess. This immediately establishes the text’s engagement with the esoteric core of yogic practice, aligning with later developments in both rāja yoga and, significantly, the evolving understanding of kuṇḍalinī within the traditions of haṭha yoga. The description of kuṇḍalinī residing in the mūlādhāra, the root chakra, is fundamental; it situates this transformative energy within the physical and energetic foundation of the body. The use of śakti underscores the dynamic and generative nature of this power, capable of initiating profound changes within the prāṇa flow and ultimately, the entire psychophysical system. The text’s invocation of the Goddess as the generator of yoga-siddhi – “perfection in yoga” – further elevates the practice beyond mere self-discipline, framing it as a divine encounter and a process of empowerment.
