लोभः प्रवृत्तिरारम्भः कर्मणामशमः स्पृहा | रजस्येतानि जायन्ते विवृद्धे भरतर्षभ
lobhaḥ pravṛttir ārambhaḥ karmaṇām aśamaḥ spṛhā | rajasy etāni jāyante vivṛddhe bharatarṣabha
Greed, impulse, the undertaking of actions, restlessness, hankering — these arise when activity is predominant, O best of the Bhāratas!.
Five signs of rajas: lobha (greed, acquisitiveness), pravṛtti (impulse toward action), ārambha (initiating projects), aśama (inability to rest), and spṛhā (hankering).
The rajasic person is always doing, unable to be still, constantly projecting into future accomplishments. This creates saṅga — attachment — to results.
Recognizing these signs allows the practitioner to understand their current guṇic state and work toward balance.
