Guṇa-Traya-Vibhāga Yoga · Verse 22
श्रीभगवानुवाच | प्रकाशं च प्रवृत्तिं च मोहमेव च पाण्डव | न द्वेष्टि सम्प्रवृत्तानि न निवृत्तानि काङ्क्षति
śrī-bhagavān uvāca | prakāśaṃ ca pravṛttiṃ ca moham eva ca pāṇḍava | na dveṣṭi sampravṛttāni na nivṛttāni kāṅkṣati
The Blessed Lord said: O son of Pāṇḍu!, he neither hates illumination, activity and delusion when they arise, nor does he desire them when they cease.
The guṇātīta is characterized by equanimity toward all three guṇas. He does not dveṣṭi — hate — any guṇa when present, nor kāṅkṣati — desire — any when absent.
Prakāśa (illumination/sattva), pravṛtti (activity/rajas), and moha (delusion/tamas) are all witnessed with equal detachment. No guṇa is intrinsically better than another from the transcendent perspective.
This is not indifference but non-attachment. The guṇātīta uses the guṇas as instruments but does not identify with them.
