तत्र सत्त्वं निर्मलत्वात्प्रकाशकमनामयम् | सुखसङ्गेन बध्नाति ज्ञानसङ्गेन चानघ

tatra sattvaṃ nirmalatvāt prakāśakam anāmayam | sukha-saṅgena badhnāti jñāna-saṅgena cānagha

Of these, luminosity, being pure, illuminating and healthy, binds through attachment to happiness and through attachment to knowledge, O sinless one!.

Sattva is the highest guṇa, characterized by nirmalatva — purity — and prakāśa — illumination. It is anāmayam — without disease.

Yet even sattva binds. Attachment to sukha — happiness or pleasure — and to jñāna — knowledge — creates subtle bonds that perpetuate identification with the field.

The liberated being uses sattva as instrument but does not identify with it. Spiritual experiences, insights, and pleasant states can become new attachments.
