Brāhmaṇavagga · The Brahmin · Gāthā 401
Yo ca brāhmaṇo hoti, so ceva brāhmaṇoti vuccati; So eva brāhmaṇo hoti, yāvad eva brāhmaṇo hoti.
Yo ca brāhmaṇo hoti, so ceva brāhmaṇoti vuccati; so eva brāhmaṇo hoti, yāvad eva brāhmaṇo hoti.
What is Brahman, is called Brahman; that one is Brahman, until one is Brahman.
The redundancy is deliberate: the Buddha underscores again and again that brāhmaṇa is a state of being, not a social title.
Only one who is the reality receives the name. The name is descriptor, not creator.
