Prathamopadeśaḥ (Ṣaṭkarma) · Verse 13

वर्धतेऽग्निस्तथायुश्च देहे कायविशुद्धितः | गुल्माजीर्णविनाशित्वमायुष्प्रदं तथैव च ||

vardhate'gnistathāyuśca dehe kāyaviśuddhitaḥ | gulmājīrṇavināśitvamāyuṣpradaṃ tathaiva ca ||

Physical purification (kāyaviśuddhi) enhances agni — the metabolic and digestive fire central to Ayurvedic medicine. Strong agni means efficient digestion, robust immunity, and vitality.

Gulma (abdominal tumors) and ajīrṇa (indigestion) represent common pathologies that dhauti helps prevent or cure. The promise of āyuṣprada (granting longevity) connects physical health with the extension of useful life for spiritual practice.

The logic is circular: healthy body → better digestion → more energy → better practice → healthier body.
