Prathamopadeśaḥ (Ṣaṭkarma) · Verse 25

शुष्कबस्तिस्तु कर्तव्यः सव्यदक्षिणपादयोः | उत्कटासनमास्थाय वायुना पूरितोदरः ||

śuṣkabastistu kartavyaḥ savyadakṣiṇapādayoḥ | utkaṭāsanamāsthāya vāyunā pūritodaraḥ ||

Śuṣka (dry) basti differs from jala basti in that it requires no water. It is practiced in utkaṭāsana (power pose/deep squat), alternately supporting oneself on each foot.

The abdomen filled with air (vāyunā pūritodaraḥ) creates internal pressure that massages and cleanses the colon through muscular contractions, without the need for external water.

This variant is more accessible for practitioners who do not have access to appropriate water or who prefer not to use the water version.
