Pañcamopadeśaḥ (Prāṇāyāma) · Verse 3
पुरकेण वायुमाकृष्य कुम्भयेदुरसा सह | ततः सृक्कण्यौ संभेद्य रेचयेद्दक्षिणामुखात् ||
purakeṇa vāyum ākṛṣya kumbhayed urasā saha | tataḥ sṛkkaṇyau saṃbhedya recayet dakṣiṇāmukhāt ||
Basic technique of prāṇāyāma: inhalation through both nostrils, retention with the bandhas, sealing, and exhalation through the right nostril.
Exhaling through the right implies closing the left nostril. This begins to work with the solar (piṅgalā) and lunar (iḍā) energy flows.
This is the simplest form of conscious prāṇāyāma, laying the foundation for more complex techniques.
