These three [Mahāmudrā, Mahābandha, Mahāvedha] are the great secret; They destroy old age and death, increase the digestive fire, and bestow aṇimā and other qualities.
Etat trayam — these three — summarizes the triad of great mudrās just described.Mahāguhyam — the great secret — emphasizes its esoteric character and incalculable value.
Jarā-mṛtyu-vināśanam — destroy old age and death. This promise is repeated as the central theme of Haṭha Yoga: transcending the temporal limitations of the physical body.
Vahni-vṛddhi-karam — increase the digestive fire.Agni (fire) is crucial for health according to Āyurveda;A strong digestive fire transforms both food and mental impressions.Aṇimādi-guṇa-pradam — bestowing aṇimā and other qualities — are the eight classical siddhis, supernatural powers that arise from yogic mastery.
