Tṛtīyopadeśaḥ (Mudrā) · Verse 92

ऊर्ध्वं मेढ्रादधो नाभेरुडयानं परं हि तत् | ऊर्ध्वं यत्प्रेर्यते बिन्दुस्तेनासौ स्यादुदाहृतः

ūrdhvaṃ meḍhrād adho nābher uḍayānaṃ paraṃ hi tat | ūrdhvaṃ yat preryate bindus tenāsau syād udāhṛtaḥ

Above the genital organ and below the navel is the supreme Uḍḍīyāna.It is so called because by it the bindu is propelled upward.

This verse connects Uḍḍīyāna Bandha with Vajrolī practice, showing how the bandhas and mudrās work synergistically.The region between the genital organ (meḍhra) and the navel (nābhi) is precisely where Uḍḍīyāna is applied.

Paraṃ uḍayānam — the supreme Uḍḍīyāna — suggests that the highest purpose of this bandha is revealed here.Although Uḍḍīyāna has multiple benefits, its supreme function is to propel the bindu upward, facilitating its transmutation.

The etymology is reiterated: ūrdhvaṃ preryate binduḥ — the bindu is propelled upward — that is why it is called udāhṛtaḥ (elevator, one who causes to rise).Abdominal retraction creates a vacuum that sucks the bindu from the genital region toward the navel area, from where it can continue its ascent to higher centers.

This integration of Vajrolī with Uḍḍīyāna shows that the practices are not isolated techniques but components of a coherent system of energy conservation and sublimation.
