Prāṇa Dhāraṇā · Dhāraṇā 1
ऊर्ध्वे प्राणो ह्यधो जीवो विसर्गात्मा परोच्चरेत् । उत्पत्तिद्वितयस्थाने भरणाद्भरिता स्थितिः ॥
ūrdhve prāṇo hy adho jīvo visargātmā paroccaret | utpattidvitayasthāne bharaṇād bharitā sthitiḥ ||
Prāṇa rises upward, jīva descends. Between these two points of origin, through fullness, the state of fullness arises.
Bhairava points to the turning of the breath. Two brief voids. Two silences between the notes.
Prāṇa rides the inhale upward. Jīva rides the exhale down. The nature of visarga — letting go — connects both movements. It is not the air that matters. It is the space between movements.
Bharitā sthitiḥ — the state of fullness. When attention rests at those turning points, without forcing, without holding, consciousness fills itself from within. It needs nothing external. The breath becomes the first teacher.
